What is Assistive Technology?

Walking and mobility aids, shower chairs, bathroom aids and suitable personal care equipment.

Communication & sensory access

Understanding AT funding

Low-cost AT

Usually funded from Core Consumables. A quote is often not required for low-risk items, but the item must be an NDIS support and fit your plan. Higher-risk items still need suitable advice.

Mid-cost AT

Generally requires written advice or evidence from an appropriately qualified assessor. We help identify what your plan and the item require before you buy.

High-cost AT

Usually requires a quote, assessment evidence and NDIA approval before purchase. Do not order equipment before confirming what your plan allows.

NDIS thresholds can change. We’ll check the current rules for your plan.

Read the NDIS guide to buying or renting AT.

The right assessment makes the connection

Occupational therapists consider daily activities, environments and equipment use. Physiotherapists can assess movement, posture and mobility needs. A speech pathologist may assess communication and communication devices. We discuss which professional is appropriate, and can work with your existing clinicians with your consent.
